How fees and hiring work
Healthcare Staff Solutions does not charge a placement fee for clinical site partnership, or when a practice hires an extern it has hosted. Hiring is your decision, and there is no minimum number of rotations. Fee terms are set by the agreement you sign, not by this page.

Externs work under your supervision on tasks your practice determines are appropriate to their training level — for example rooming patients, taking vitals, assisting with procedures, and EHR documentation. Which tasks a student may perform, and under whose supervision, is governed by applicable state scope-of-practice rules and by the school's program requirements. What is the typical clinical hours requirement?▾
Our MA programs require 80 externship hours for graduation. The rotation is typically completed over 2–3 weeks, though scheduling is flexible — we work around your office's availability and coordinate the timeline with the school.
What does the affiliation agreement cover?▾
Our standard clinical affiliation agreement outlines supervision requirements, scope of practice, confidentiality obligations, and the responsibilities described in the agreement. Your practice should review the agreement and confirm any coverage or compliance questions with its own advisers.
Do we pay the extern during the clinical rotation?▾
The rotation is structured as an unpaid, required academic component, and students earn clinical credit through their school for completing the hours. Healthcare Staff Solutions does not invoice your practice for a student's time. Whether an unpaid placement is permissible for your practice under the Fair Labor Standards Act and your state's wage-and-hour law is a determination your practice must make with its own advisers. Are we required to hire after the rotation?▾
There is no obligation to hire. Many partner offices use clinical rotations for workforce development and choose to hire when the fit is right — but the program works equally well as a community education contribution. You decide case by case.
What if a student isn't meeting expectations?▾
Contact your coordinator directly. We take performance issues seriously, will facilitate a conversation with the school, and can end or reassign a rotation if needed. Your comfort as a clinical training site is essential to the program working long-term.
